GHF BloomBox: Your Desktop Propagation Station
Congratulations on your new GHF BloomBox! This compact and easy-to-use propagation tank utilizes an ebb and flow system to provide optimal conditions for starting seeds, rooting cuttings, and growing healthy young plants right on your desktop.
What's in the box:
GHF BloomBox reservoir (1/2 gallon capacity, with pre-installed 5w pump)
Ebb and flow chamber (pre-assembled with pump and tubing, holds up to 6 BloomCups)
Lid with integrated 5w LED grow light
Power adapter for grow light
12 GHF BloomCups with collars (for starting clones and seedlings)
6 blank inserts (for unoccupied spots in the ebb and flow chamber)
Getting Started:
Find the perfect spot: Place your BloomBox on a flat, stable surface near an electrical outlet. Indirect sunlight is ideal. If placing the BloomBox in a sunny area, you may want to adjust the grow light schedule to complement natural light cycles and ensure your plants receive the appropriate amount of light overall.
Set the timers:
Grow Light Timer: Your BloomBox grow light features a built-in timer with three settings: 8 hours, 12 hours, or 16 hours. Choose the setting that best suits the needs of your plants.
Pump Cycle Timer: Your BloomBox includes a cycle timer for the pump, allowing you to customize how often and how long the ebb and flow chamber is flooded. See our TIMER SUPPORT PAGE for setup instructions
Ideal Setting: In most situations, a good starting point is 3 minutes ON (filling) and 6 minutes OFF (draining). This keeps the chamber filled for about 50% of the time.
Customization: You can adjust the cycle timer to meet the specific needs of your plants. Some plants may prefer more frequent flooding, while others may thrive with less.
Important Note: The BloomBox takes approximately 2 minutes to fill and less than 2 minutes to empty. It should not overfill unless there is a clog.
Connect the Pump to the top chamber
The pump should be connected to the smaller of the two connectors at the bottom of the top chamber with the supplied hose. (hose should be pre installed on the pump)
Fill the reservoir:
To make filling easier, you can turn the top chamber 90 degrees so that it rests on the top of the reservoir.
Fill the BloomBox reservoir with clean water. While tap water is generally fine, letting it sit out for 24 hours allows chlorine to evaporate, which can be beneficial for sensitive plants. Nutrients should be added per the manufacturers’ recommended dosage.
Position the chamber: Place the ebb and flow chamber directly on top of the reservoir. It should fit securely.
Prepare your plants:
BloomCup Advantage: The BloomCup is specially designed to protect delicate seedlings from early damage and ensure continuous access to water and nutrients for clones, even between ebb and flow cycles.
Important: Make sure your clones and cuttings are large enough to reach the bottom of the BloomCup, where water is held for continuous feeding.
Insert your seedlings or clones into the BloomCups. Use the collars to help support the plants and keep them stable.
Arrange in the chamber: Place the BloomCups with your plants into the openings in the ebb and flow chamber. Use the blank inserts to fill any empty spots.
Light it up: Insert the light into the BloomBox lid, connect the power adapter to the grow light, and turn on the light and pump. The pump will cycle water up into the ebb and flow chamber according to the settings you've chosen, providing essential oxygen and nutrients to your plants.
Watch them grow! Monitor your plants regularly, and be prepared to transplant them into soil or a larger hydroponic system once they develop a healthy root system.
BloomBox Care:
Water level: Check the water level in the reservoir every few days and top it off as needed.
Water changes: Replace the water in the reservoir every 1-3 weeks to prevent stagnation and algae growth. When adding fresh water, be sure to add nutrients again, if using, following the nutrient provider's instructions.
Cleaning:
Regular cleaning: Your BloomBox is made of durable, easy-to-clean PETG plastic. Simply empty the reservoir and ebb and flow chamber, and wash them with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly.
Deep cleaning: For a more thorough cleaning, you can disassemble the ebb and flow chamber from the pump. Clean all components with mild soap and water, rinse well, and reassemble.
Light care: Occasionally wipe down the grow light with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris.
Tips for Success:
Plant Selection: The BloomBox is suitable for propagating a wide variety of plants. Experiment with herbs, vegetables, and flowers!
Research: Learn about the specific needs of the plants you're propagating. Some may prefer different light or feeding cycles.
Nutrients:
If using nutrients, always follow the instructions provided by the nutrient manufacturer.
If no specific instructions for propagation are given, start with a nutrient solution that has been diluted to at least 50% strength.
Be sure to select nutrients formulated for seedlings or clones, as mature plant fertilizers can be too strong.
Troubleshooting:
Algae growth: If algae starts to grow in your BloomBox, increase water changes to once a week and reduce the amount of light the tank receives. Be sure to use blanks to block light from unused areas of the chamber.
Wilting plants: This could indicate insufficient water, too much light, or disease. Check the water level, adjust the light cycle, and inspect your plants for signs of pests or diseases.
Pump issues: If the pump is not working properly, check to make sure it is plugged in and that the hose has not become kinked or clogged.
Enjoy your GHF BloomBox and happy growing!
